Art Prints

Animals have their own place in art history, from the exotic birds painted for wealthy collectors to the cats of Paris. In this group you will find Jan Asselijn's The Threatened Swan, the first painting ever bought for the Rijksmuseum's predecessor in 1800, and Melchior d'Hondecoeter's birds near a pool, by the 17th-century specialist in poultry and parkland birds. Aert Schouman's watercolours of birds, a monkey among fruit by Jean-Baptiste Oudry, Théophile-Alexandre Steinlen's cats from 1909 and Toyohara Chikanobu's leaping carp add variety in time and style. Many of these prints work well in a child's room, a study or a country kitchen.
